Youth History Camp

The Youth History Camps are for 1st through 6th graders.  Camp meets on the second Saturday of each month at the Historical Society of Decatur County Museum 9 -11 am.  Space is limited to 10 participants per camp. If we have more people interested we will add a second session for the same topic. Registration is required, cost is $5 per child. March 8 - "History of the National Anthem" March 3 is National Anthem Day. We will take a look at the history of "The Star Spangled Banner" and how it became the National Anthem.

April 12 - "Follow the Drinking Gourd" by Jeanette Winter. The group will do an activity relating to the book "Follow the Drinking Gourd" and take time to look at the Underground Railroad exhibit that will be in the Museum Gallery.

May 10 - "History of the Red Cross" The group will learn about the origins of the Red Cross and what it is. After the lesson we will have a fun activity.

June 14 - "History of the Flag and Flag Day" A look at the history of the United States flag and why we have Flag Day.
